I just want to say that I was so happy that I was able to see the Cure in Chicago & in LA they were the best & I had a great time & loved everything they played. The Cure is & will always be my favorite music. I believe they are a gift & I thank Robert for his music & lyrics. His music healed me when I was going through some very difficult times & I thank him for his beautiful talent & I will always be grateful to the Cure..Robert thanks for bringing us such beautiful music & continues his legend...

I absolutely love The Cure, their music is wonderful and Robert is gorgeous, but if and when they come here, I'll probably have no money for concert tickets...I'd love to see them. Anyone with that opportunity is so lucky to see more than just photos and music videos...

The music is beautitful, from when I first bought "Happily Ever After" and listened to "The Funeral Party". Such a beautiful song. From then I was hooked. And have been ever since. I met them in 1986 during the Head on the Door tour. Just wonderful and beautiful men. Of course they're good looking. Their attitudes and confidence helps make them that way. They know they have talent and it shows in their music. Simon HAS aged gracefully and so has Robert. The thing is, he doesn't have to change, just like we don't have to change. And that's what attracts people like me to The Cure. Because they're themselves. Beautiful, Talented, and Confident.

youre comment is very candid and very true! although, im in my mid-twenties, as are most of my friends...i think we need to realize the fact that too many focus too heavily on outward appearances! if i were blind...i would enjoy the cure's music just as much as i do now, with my gift of sight. dont get me wrong..i have to admit that i am one of the fickle-girls who certainly gets a rush from looking at ROBERT..i find him to be a true individual, which makes him extrememly sexy to me!! makeup, no make up, big hair..no hair! i think the world is a better..and definitely more beautiful place with ROBERT among us!

I don't think Robert should lose the make-up. It is apart of him as The Cure and he looks very HOT in it, I think. That adds to the thrill for me and would find it odd to have him up on stage without it.

About some of the comments, I do photo editing with Photoshop, and while blemishes may have been taken out of these photos, it doesn't look like any sort of editing has been done to Robert as far as overall appearances. The shading and shadows just look too natural. They are great. Robert's hair and make-up are him. It was never a big issue with the other band members, so they could take it or leave it. It is a big part of Robert though.

Anyway, I have been a Cure fan for twenty-something years. They are one of the few poeple I pay to go see in concert--along with David Bowie.

I guess the original question was what do people think about the publicity photos -- I think you can care about the Cure's music and still be interested in their appearance or even attracted to them, so this is easy for me to answer. I will always get a thrill over Robert but I do think it's time to lose the 80s makeup and hair. I notice all the other guys in the band have. Actually I think he is trying to phase it out, notice in the photo all he has on is the black eye shadow and huge pouf of hair. Otherwise, normal clothes and face. I don't really care if he has been hitting the twinkies too hard the past few (?) years. Most of my friends are approaching (or passing) 40 now and some of them are not looking that svelte either...hey kids, it will happen to you too...I think he looks sexier in the candid pictures I see now and then ... I'm not usually a fan of publicity photos. Anyway, they're musicians, not models.

I can just imagine how hard it would be to pose for photos with out feeling like a total wanker, I have to say that every photo I see of the cure is always so casual and when its a little more high class its usually something really artistic. I've loved the music of the cure ever since the love of my life introduced me to it at 14years old. Now at 25 the same songs I've been listening to for 11 years still give me chills. And I guess you could say since we're still together that the cure are a big part of our lives. For my 21st birthday he took me to see Bloodflowers, we didn't have the best seats but that doesn't matter when the music starts. It's the most amazing sensation. I love that they are still putting out new stuff, I still get the same intense feeling from their new music its AWESOME

Looking at the promos of him with his guitar remind me of a poster I still have hanging of him from his "Mixed Up" days. He is wearing a floral print shirt and the lighting was intense like the those above, giving him that "white face" that contrasted his eyes and hair. That is still my favorite poster I have. When comparing the two, he looked like he hasn't changed much! I have hope that I will age as gracefully!

I just read the news postings about "love is in the air" and engagements. I guess the anniversary theme in the last few postings here must have inspired people to write how the Cure can bring two people together? Anyway, if Mary and Robert can survive the hard times, which most "rock stars" can barely handle and end it at the drop of a hat, then anyone can. That is what I love Robert and Mary for is defying the odds. If you have a hard day or something isn't working, I guarantee Robert wrote about it or has lyrics for getting you through it. It's good non-professional therapy.

Oh god. I simply bow down before the glory that is THE CURE. They look great and sound great and rock like always. I saw the Denver (Englewood) show and they seemed so excited and pumped. Robert's voice blew me away, as always, and they looked like always... great! Their music is as emotional and powerful as I've ever heard it... and the pics aren't half bad ;)

That is neat that Robert and Mary's anniversary is close to mine (ours). My husband and I were married on August 16th! Matter of fact, for "our song" at the reception, we danced to "Halo", which was cool because NOBODY ever heard that song at any wedding they had been to, until ours! We also requested a few more Cure songs at our reception, which we supplied the D.J. Our love for the Cure is what brought us together, so it was only fitting that we included them in our reception! Going to two Curiosa concerts, Cleveland and Detroit, were our "7th Anniversary" gifts to each other. They was the most expensive presents we've given each other to date between the cost of tickets, add ons, sitters, gas, and expensive beer. We're broke for a while!

were you even at the houston show? you said they only played 6 songs that weren't from the new album--try 17 songs. i thought robert seemed quite happy; happier than other cure shows i have seen in the past. the lyric you say "i dont care if everyone dies" is "it doesn't matter if we all die" from 'one hundred years' released over 20 years ago.

Sorry you were disappointed by the concert, but I've gotten a totally different impression.

First of all, I don't think they've changed their style particularly. If anything, they're adhering overly much to a "Cure-ish" sound. They're not leaving the past behind, they're very actively honoring their history (I wish they'd be more adventurous). And have the lyrics become angrier? Robert wrote "it doesn't matter if we all die" in 1992. The new album has some dark lyrics, but also so bright ones, and overall it sounds very energized. I saw them play Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD, and they were incredibly full of life.

I'm sure they've got at least another couple albums in them, maybe more...

I just saw the Cure perform last night in Houston. Am I the only one who gets the vibe like this may be the beginning of the end. I left that concert feeling very uneasy, not to mention depressed. The new cd is good, dont get me wrong. But the lyrics seem bitter and angry. My heart sank more with each song. I heard lyrics like "i dont care if everyone dies" Wow. Not to mention, Robert started crying during Boys Dont Cry. They only played 6 songs that werent from the new album. Now that they're style has changed a little, are they trying to leave the past behind? I dont think Roberts heart was in it. He didnt seem very happy to be there at all. I have been waiting my entire life to see the Cure...and I have to admit, I left the concert feeling pretty dissapointed.

Seriously! People contending about those who commented on Robert’s physical features - the comment page for these new photos asked what everyone thought of the photos, not the music! It’s ridiculous that people say you’re not a true fan if you make a comment about the band’s weight, which does not reflect the band’s ability to make great music, nor reflect people’s liking for the music. Just because some fans stated their opinion about Robert’s weight doesn’t mean they like the band or the music any less. I commented on Robert’s weight...I said he was still cute, but that I thought he looked better when he was a little smaller; I still adore the music, I still adore the band, I still adore Robert, and I am still a “true” Cure fan!

I don't think it's fair to compare Robert to David Bowie or other middle-aged people regarding his weight. I have been a Bowie fan for years, but he has always been rail-thin. Bowie and Robert are different people with different body types, so to compare them in that sense is like comparing apples and oranges.

I'm back again---for whatever it's worth I've noticed not just here but amoung my various-aged music-loving friends & relatives the people who really REALLY worship Robert no matter what seem to be much younger...the folks more the Cure's age such as myself are more likely to concentrate on the music, and more likely to say "C'mon Bob-- if your band mates & folks like David Bowie (& myself) can keep that weight down & update our looks now & then, why can't you?"

Get real people - OK he's put on a little weight over the past couple of years but, and I thank god for this, I manage to look beyond that and see him for what he is - one of the most talented singer/songwriter, musician, producers that this country (England) has ever created. Every word he writes carries more meaning than the majority of crud in the various 'charts' at the moment. And yes, he still makes me swoon and I'm proud of that. The Cure rock no matter who is wearing pancake today or not. Yes, it is a tad odd that little teenie girls still swoon over Robert but that is what being rock star is..people want to be him/them to escape the everyday reality. I wonder if this still makes him feel akward? Probably. I can realte..pretty shy myself. I couldn't imagine getting used to kicking it with strangers either. But anyway, its about the music. Now, lets all go into that otherly worldly world for awhile.

I'm an older Cure fan (how old? 2 & 3 years up on Robert & Simon respectively) and used to work in a photo lab. Bet these shots are touched up as publicity stills usually are. Judging from the Jay Leno show & Coachella photos I'd say yes Robert has been made thinner. Normally I couldn't care less except it could be alcohol bloat, which gets serious as you get older. In contrast the others look like they know their way to their local gym and have cut back on the Cure's legendary drinking; you don't stay lean in your 40's without exercise & good habits, trust me. Also Roger looks sweet & Simon handsome as they ditched the goth hair & eyeliner years ago. (So did Porl Thompson btw.) I know Robert uses makeup as a mask to help him face the audience, in the end it's all about their great music but I find 20 year olds swooning over a pauchy 45 year old weird.

How can anyone possibly bash this band for appearance? They all look amazing. And Robert's appeal has nothing to do with his weight. Look into his eyes...they're the gateway to his soul. As far as cutting his hair and losing the makeup - they're his trademarks...Why the hell would he change them? I imagine true Cure fans have more class than this, so I chalk the shallow comments up to fair-weather fans (if fans at all). I'm just happy every day I wake up and realize that the most amazing band that ever walked the planet is still gracing us with their overwhelming talent. Viva La Cure! Lynn

it shouldnt matter what they look like at all! especially robert! he's a brillant poet and deserves to be admired rather then insulted about his appearance. any true fan would still adore the cure no matter how ugly and old they get! (personally i find them all rather attractive) all that really matters is how superb their music is!

yes men in makeup are friggin hot. that's what my fiancee says everytime i put mine on. now everyone seriously lets move on from this. yes even i said something about robert's size, but it's all out of love. i'll say he looks a 1000 times better than he did 4 years ago. the music is all that counts. let's be thrilled that the man has not lost his creative edge like countless others from his generation. he's still got it like Bowie does. let's enjoy the next few months of excitment. can't wait to see robert & all my fellow cure fans august 1 in Camden, NJ!!! www.scarymatt.com

Great pics...though I do wish Robert would cut a bit off his hair. Even if just to length it was in '96... But still great pics, the band looks great, especially when you consider the fact that most are in their mid to late forties. And to the person who said Robert should lose the makeup, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!

I think the pictures are great, so was the Coachella show and so is the new album cover. These people who are nitpicky about everything make me sick. I support whatever The Cure decide to do wear or play. I have been a fan for 20 years and have no place in my heart to critisize anything about them. I AM JUST GLAD THEY ARE STILL AROUND.

Most of the below comments regarding Robert's weight and hair are extremely embarrassing to me as a sincere Cure fan. Please recognize the importance of their music & the depth of their influence - and quit calling him "Fat Bob." It's insulting to Robert & it's insulting to me, and if that's all you have to comment on - then don't comment at all.

Mr. Smith definitely still has "it." Everyone gets pudgier at some point in their lives. if he does want to lose weight then he should go vegan!:) well, anyways, i think it gives him sort of a wise look and as for his hair... that is sooo soo so sexy! its all ragamuffin-ish... grrowwl... and the rest of the band looks excellent too.

OMG you guys....I love Robert Smith more than anything in this world. I agree that he has become a bit pudgy lately, but does it really matter? What makes him so incredibly sexy is the way his intoxicating voice makes you swoon as you move to the words and sounds that he must have incorporated straight from your soul. I see that world so differently after listening to his voice....everything becomes slightly more bearable. It would so be the bomb to go bowling with him in full hair and makeup, dontcha think? LOL!!!

Come on, get a life, go and turn on E! and eMpTyBe and enjoy the bodyes of people that's REALLY horrible in the inside.

Robert is a guy that create Music with SUSTANCE and looks really great, as beauty as he allways was. Look into his eyes and his music. You cant find that on every corner... .

You have to laugh when you see thirty and forty-somethings pouting and posing like the first flush of youth...minus the first flush of youth. Maybe because I'm old enough to remember being stage-side for tours prior to Faith and Pornography, but this is just embarrassing.

Personally, I'd be more worried about the music than the hair. How acutely, shoe-enlargingly-toe-curling, to have this marlarkey thrown at you as a grown man. And image-rights permission, too? Yikes....

And when do we get a decent version of Ariel? Err, I mean minus the drop-D...

Can you say air-brushed? Robert looked bigger around the face and neck area when The Cure played The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, in these new publicity photos his chin and neck are more defined. I absolutely love Mr. Robert Smith - believe me the man can do no wrong in my eyes, but he does look better with more distinct features rather than his face blending in with his neck. Still, there will always be a cuteness to him, even if he is a little rollie-pollie :)
