Political Postcards

before the concert in berlin started, there were a distribution of postcards for the "PDS Linke Partei Deutschland". This is a call for the forthcoming elections in germany. I dont think that the band authorized that! - Caro

This is not a postcard by the Party "Die Linke" formerly know as PDS, but by an electoral initiative for Gregor Gysi as a candidate.

How can anybody claim here that Robert's political views are close to the ones of the PDS? I doubt that completely. Robert would never support those f... communists that were responsible for killing around one thousand people at the former inner german border

dear atnight.

i do agree with some of your views, but i have confirmation of pds that there was no authorisation for this cards. i mean, how weak are these people? instead of using their own programs, they have to use other peoples lyrics for their adverts? there's also confirmation they did the same with the german band silbermond a day before without any permission...

but since you seem to robert personally (by stating his views are close to pds') you could ask him for us?

the royalties were not from the "wish" album, but from the "paris" album

yes, but now it's more obvious Robert is involved more in politics -that is different than doing charities, they always have- because of the internet...Globalization has a huge impact on everyone...whatever he says everyone will know as very soon.

No, this is not different at all. If you are fighting against a system, you're fighting against it everywhere. This is a human problem, not only a german, an english, a spanish, a french, (or wherever) one. If you fight against pollution, you're not fighting against pollution in Portugal, but in everywhere in the world. If you are fighting injustice, you're fighting against it everywhere you can. If some political party ask you to use your album sleeve and write an exctract from som of your songs and if you are ok with the comitment of this party, I really don't know why you should refuse.

Do you really think, the PDS party (which is very close to the convictions of Robert) could print postal cards, sign it officially, with every risk it could be composed with, and give them in front of a Cure concert, just like that ?

Yes, the Wish album gave all its royalties to Amnesty International. Sorry for the mistake.

"the cure are anti-apartheid, all royalties from this album will be donated to amnesty international", and yes, this is a political commitment.

Some are even more explicit too.

Actually, it was the proceeds from Paris that went toward the International Red Cross, if I'm not mistaken. But that's a moot point.

And how can we imagine, a single second, that someone who stole the sleeve of The Cure and an extract from some of their songs, could quietly sign her/his name, and give her/his adress ... this is a non-sense

I guess the group authorised that. The Cure are very interested in politics. Remember for example the political refugee, the live 8, Amnesty International, Greenpeace, and all the royalties from the Wish album given to International Red Cross. Remember what Robert told in 1984 about Margaret Thatcher regim, read what Robert told in interviews from 1982 to 2005, etc... these are very good clues ;)
