The Lonestar is a highly regarded symbol in the state of Texas. It appears not only in the state flag, but is frequently found in architecture, furnishings and decorations throughout the state. I'm not a native Texan, I've lived in numerous other states, but I have found no other place where the natives identify themselves as strongly with the state and its history. Many states don't even have a word, like "Texan", that identifies its citizens as belonging to the state. The sense of being "Texan" is very strong in the people who live here and for good reason; Texas has a long and proud history that its citizens can identify with, and it is all reflected in the Lonestar.
