The night before this stop, I was lying in bed reading my Lonely Planet guide to Belgium - I happened upon an entry on this town, which is reputedly lively during Carnival. Since it was close to the airport, I stopped...nothing could have prepared me for the brew-haha that was occurring there. Apparently on Fat Tuesday (two days after I was there) there's a big parade, everyone gets up at 4am to start drinking, then they basically go out into the streets and throw stuff. You can see in a couple of the pictures that all the windows are protected with wooden frames and chickenwire. Craziness.
