I think this egg was about ready to hatch. It's from the Robin's nest just outside the door, which...
a) Stupid place to put a nest
b) It didn't look well-constructed from the beginning
The wind's been blowing a lot in the past day or so,
and this morning the nest was tipped sideways and one egg was laying on the ground.
There's at least one more egg in the nest,
but I haven't seen the parents around at all today
so I think they've flown the coop, as it were.
I left the nest alone just in case they're not really gone,
but even if they came back and the remaining eggs hatched the nest is
so tilted I seriously doubt the baby birds would be able to stay in.
