I kind of blew this shot, in retrospect.

I should have gone for the most difficult -- long exposure to try and get some detail on the owl, but instead I just used the 'nightshot' feature on the 717. By the time I had gone back in to get the tripod, I had disturbed it from its roost.

Fortunately there was a flashlight handy and it was caught in the beam as it flew right past.
It was huge, and absolutely silent as it went by.
