I was pretty frustrated last night with the way Jason's left eye was looking (his left, my right).
The only way to get past this stage is to remain confident that everything will work out,
even though it seems like you'll never get there.
Usually stepping back and taking a break helps you to see what's missing, what will make things come together.
Often it's a very simple change -- adding a line, darkening an existing line; even small changes can make a significant difference.
Knowing what to change, how to change it, and when to stop fiddling with it -- that's the hard part.
I'm pretty content with the way Jason's face looks now -- I may come back to it later as the whole drawing continues to develop,
but for now it's close to where it needs to be.
I broke out the 5B pencil briefly tonight to get some nice dark areas filled in -- just deepening the shadows really adds some depth.
It's an easy way to make it look like you're making progress, and I needed the encouragement!
I'd say I'm about a third of the way done; hopefully the other faces won't give me much trouble.
Once they're done there's still quite a bit of finishing work to do, but I'll stop worrying.
