From Many, One
Day 160

My grandpa used to collect nickels.

You've heard how people pinch pennies till they scream?
He made them holler bloody murder.
For how wrung-out this one looks, he may very well have had his hands on it at some point.

I like this nickel; I think it has a lot of character -- it was actually sent in one of those gimmicky junk mailers where they try to bribe you to part with $20 by sending you a REAL LIVE nickel.
Anyway, I kept the nickel.

My grandpa died a year ago today, and I happened to think about him and his nickels.

Great shot, great perspective ... I have a 'nickle' shot, too, lol! See it here: http://www.pbase.com/willa/image/31124019
(I am going through a divorce, so my PAD galleries have suffered these last few months. And I was just getting started, but I've picked myself up and brushed myself off, at least for now, so I hope to start shooting (with the camera that is) again soon.)

Great stuff here, Carmen. You're marked in my favorites.

;)

A great story Carmen, and excellent shot. Can feel the smoothness and worn relief. Like this, alot.

I love old coins. Have several of my granddaddy's. I like this one and the composition too.

This IS a great nickel. I have certain coins that I really like for their character too. That's a great story about your grandpa. My love was my grandma... she was a raucous and bawdy character who taught me how to wolf whistle with my fingers. I have the loudest wolf whistle this side of the mississippi. It never fails to bring an errant dog back home.

Great detail!

Yeah, what kind of deal is that? A nickel for a $20?!

This is great! I think you added a lot of interest with the torn sheet of paper. Can't imagine how you came up with that idea, but it was a good one.

Very nice, Carmen. Nice tribute (although I'm sure he wasn't as stingy as you make out). BTW, please explain to me what a nickel is, and what a dime is. I know a quarter is 25c (doh!), but these others - is one worth 5c and the other 10c - and if so, which is which?

Nice composition

Very nice composition.

I like the set up here.. as I can feel the cold and relief of the nickel in my hand as well as the dry texture of the paper... complete with roughly torn edge. Nicely composed.

geez...isn't it amazing how our families live in our heads and hearts? I still miss my grandma so much ... great closeup! You sure get more out of that 717 than I ever did mine.
