This is a drawing I did in 1993 of my Grandma and Grandpa's engagement picture.
They were married in 1936, and today would have been their 68th wedding anniversary.

Here is a copy of the original photograph: http://www.pbase.com/image/32641654
It was taken in 1936 on Easter Sunday, in Chicago on Michicgan Avenue.
If anyone knows what this ball is or where it is located, I would be interested in hearing from you.
It possibly resided in front of the Art Institute where the lions now sit, but I don't know.
My grandpa died last October at the age of 92 and the picture has come back into my possesion recently,
but I am not ready to unwrap it and hang it on the wall just yet.
*** UPDATE ***
I sent the question about where this picture was taken into a local "Ask Geoffrey" show, and the answer came back today, 1/7/10:
It was taken at the "Standing Lincoln" monument built in 1887, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, located just south of the Lincoln Park Zoo.
I've been very near there many times, and I never knew I was walking past the answer to one of my questions...
