There was quite a lot of activity around the bird bath this morning -
a family of baby robins was playing around and getting their baths, as well as some cardinals.
Then this yellow bird showed up, just wanting a drink. I don't recall seeing a bird like this before,
though if I have I can at least say it's rare enough that if I've seen one I'd forgotten.
I think the robin was more scared and defensive than trying to be aggressive.
It was quite a show.
The mystery is what the yellow bird is.
I know it's not a goldfinch - its yellow is more of a rich butter yellow than a goldfinch's bright lemon shade,
and its tail feathers are yellow as well, whereas a goldfinch's are black.
My first guess was an oriole, which I initially dismissed. When I think Oriole I think flashy male Baltimore Oriole, and I rarely see those.
Then after some research I came back around to it being an Oriole - an Orchard Oriole, to be exact - a female,
possibly juvenile (the head is kind of speckled and doesn't quite look like the pictures of mature birds I looked at).
The beak looks about right for it being that.
If anyone knows what the yellow bird is, please let me know.
Here's another picture of it:
