In the ongoing Don Quixote saga...
Where we left off:
The shaft came free of the mower deck.
I (briefly) celebrated, then realized the outer raceway of the bearing was still locked hard in the deck, in a blind hole.
Ordered a blind hole puller, which arrived yesterday evening.
Messed around with it a bit last night, got an idea of how to proceed, and today...
proceeded to proceed.
Decided to brace the puller on wood instead of directly on the body of the deck.
When I finally got the tension and angle right it really didn't take that long -
the remainder of the bearing broke free with a BOOM!,
and with a couple more turns the whole thing sprang free.
So the question now is...what's the next windmill going to look like?
Fun post note - when I was cleaning out in the garage the other day I came across one of the
actual ball bearings and recognized immediately what it had to be from.
The rest are probably scattered all over the yard, but this one came back home.
