This was a special day, a special place.
For years I had a photo of my grandparents that was their engagement picture, but until very recently the location of where it had been taken
was a mystery to everyone in the family, with the only knowledge of it being that it had been taken in Chicago on Easter Sunday, 1936.
Last year I sent in a query to a show airing on PBS called "Ask Geoffrey." I didn't hear back for months and thought I never would until one day in January
I received an e-mail letting me know that the location had been found and that it would be one of the locations featured on the show.
The original picture was taken at the "Standing Lincoln" monument located in Lincoln Park.
I wanted to visit the place right away, but decided to wait for a more fitting day and nicer weather. Since it'd been taken on Easter
I looked up what day Easter had been 74 years ago, which was the 12th of April.
I took my mom there without telling her anything - do you know how hard to keep a secret for over 3 months when you're busting to tell? :D
It turned out to be a lovely day, probably very much like the day it had been taken on, and it was really special and moving to see it finally in person.
Here is the original picture of my grandparents:
