It can be done! What I mean is you can get a shot just like this with a 300mm and a 1.4TC. Your movements must be slow if any at all. I spent about 30 minutes with these Avocets lying on the sand with my camera literally sitting on the sand with one finger under the lens hood tilting slightly up. Sun behind me looking towards the bird. I want to thank Tim Timmis for teaching me this technique. It really does make the photograph more appealing.
