The following 5 subspecies are being recognized:
Melloria quoyi quoyi - New Guinea (except southcentral), Yapen Island and West-Papuan Islands;
Melloria quoyi spaldingi - Northwest- and North-Australia, Tiwi Island;
Melloria quoyi alecto - Southcentral-New Guinea, Aru Island and islands in the North-Torres Strait;
Melloria quoyi jardini - Cape York Peninsula (Northeast-Australia);
Melloria quoyi rufescens - Northeast-Queensland (Northeast-Australia).
