Southeast-Asia to New Guinea and Society Island (East-Polynesia).

The following 7 subspecies are being recognized:
Hirundo tahitica javanica - South-Myanmar and Andaman Island to South-Vietnam, Philippines, Moluccas, Greater and Lesser Sundas;
Hirundo tahitica namiyei - Ryukyu Island (South-Japan) and Taiwan;
Hirundo tahitica frontalis - North- and West-New Guinea, Aru Island, Geelvink Bay Island and islands off north coast;
Hirundo tahitica albescens - South- and East-New Guinea and satellites;
Hirundo tahitica ambiens - New Britain and satellites (Southeast-Bismarck Islands);
Hirundo tahitica subfusca - Admiralty Islands, New Ireland to Solomon Islands, Ouvea and Vanuatu to Fiji and Tonga;
Hirundo tahitica tahitica - Moorea and Tahiti.
