The following 10 subspecies are being recognized:
Lacerta agilis agilis - West- and Westcentral-Europe';
Lacerta agilis argus - Central-Europe east to Carpathian Mountains and East-Poland;
Lacerta agilis chersonensis - East-Europe (east of Carpathian Mountains) and West-Russia;
Lacerta agilis bosnica - Mountains of Croatia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece;
Lacerta agilis exigua - Caucasus east to Mongolia and West-China;
Lacerta agilis grusinica - Northeast-Turkey, Caucasus;
Lacerta agilis brevicaudata - North- and West-Armenia, South-Georgia and southern slopes of Greater Caucasus;
Lacerta agilis ioriensis - Southern slopes of the Caucasus, Georgia;
Lacerta agilis boemica - South-Russia, Northeast-Caucasus;
Lacerta agilis mzymtensis - West-Caucasus.
