West- and Central-Palearctic and Africa.
The following 2 subspecies are being recognized:
Glareola pratincola pratincola - South-Europe, North-Africa to Central-Asia, Pakistan and Northwest-India;
Glareola pratincola fuelleborni - Senegal to Ethiopia and South-Somalia south to East-South Africa.
