Sterna hirundo hirundo - North- and South-America, Atlantic Islands, Europe and West-Africa to China;
Sterna hirundo tibetana - West-Mongolia to Kashmir and Tibet. Winters to East-Indian Ocean;
Sterna hirundo minussensis - Central-Asia to North-Mongolia and South-Tibet. Winters to Indian Ocean;
Sterna hirundo longipennis - Northeast-Siberia to Northeast-China. Winters to Southeast-Asia to Australia.
