The following 3 subspecies are being recognized:
Topaza pella pella - East-Venezuela, North-Brazil, Guyana and Suriname;
Topaza pella smaragdulus - French Guiana and Northeast-Brazil (north of the Amazon);
Topaza pella microrhyncha - Northcentral-Brazil (south of the Amazon).
