Southeast-USA. Introduced on Bahamas and into Madera County (California, Southwest-USA).

The following 2 subspecies are being recognized:
Lithobates sphenocephalus sphenocephalus - Florida;
Lithobates sphenocephalus utricularia - East-Kansas and South-New York south to Texas and Georgia.
