Haematopus ostralegus ostralegus - Iceland and Scandinavia to South Europe. Winters to Africa;
Haematopus ostralegus longipes - Russia to Siberia and south to Caspian and Aral Seas;
Haematopus ostralegus buturlini - West-Kazakhstan to Northwest-China. Winters to Southwest-Asia and India;
Haematopus ostralegus osculans - Kamchatka Peninsula and North Korea. Winters East China.
