Central-Europe to Central-Asia. Winters to North-Africa and Southwest-Asia.

The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Falco cherrug cherrug - Central-Europe to Southcentral-Siberia and Kazakhstan. Winters to Northeast-Africa and Southwest-Asia;
Falco cherrug coatsi - Central-Asia to South-Siberia and North-China;
Falco cherrug hendersoni - West- and South-Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan;
Falco cherrug milvipes - Himalayas to Tibet.
