The following 3 subspecies are being recognized:
Corthylio calendula grinnelli - Alaska, Southwest-Canada and Northwest-USA. Winters to West-USA;
Corthylio calendula calendula - Central- and East-Canada and Southwest-, Westcentral- and East-USA. Winters to North-Central America;
Corthylio calendula obscurus - Guadalupe Island (off Northwest-Mexico).
