The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Cuculus canorus canorus - Europe and the Middle East to Kamchatka, Japan and North-China. Winters to South-Africa and South-Asia;
Cuculus canorus bangsi - Iberian Peninsula, Balearic Islands and Northwest-Africa. Winters to Africa;
Cuculus canorus subtelephonus - Turkmenistan to South-Mongolia. Winters to South-Asia and Africa;
Cuculus canorus bakeri - West-China and North-India to South-China and Northwest-Thailand. Winters to Northeast-India and Southeast-Asia.
