South-Europe and Northwest-Africa to Mongolia and Northeast-China.
The following 2 subspecies are being recognized:
Otis tarda tarda - Southwest- and Central-Europe, Northwest-Africa to Southwest-Siberia and Central-Mongolia;
Otis tarda dybowskii - Mongolia to Southeast-Siberia and Northeast-China.
