Southeast-Asia to Borneo and Java.

The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Phodilus badius saturatus - Northeast-India to South-China, North-Thailand and Indochina;
Phodilus badius badius - South-Thailand, Malay Peninsula and Greater Sundas including Nias (west of North-Sumatra);
Phodilus badius parvus - Belitung (east of South-Sumatra);
Phodilus badius arixuthus - Bunguran (Natuna Island, northwest of Borneo).
