North-Africa, Europe to Turkey and Transcaucasia.
The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Pararge aegeria aegeria - Southwest-Europe (north to South-France and South-Switserland) and Northwest-Africa;
Pararge aegeria tircis - North- and Central-Europe, Asia Minor, Syria, Russia and Central-Asia;
Pararge aegeria oblita - Scotland and adjacent islands;
Pararge aegeria insula - Islands of Scilly.
