The monarch Butterfly

This species is native to most of the Canary Islands, possibly by having crossed the Atlantic from America, though it may have been introduced by man. Its food plant in the Asclepia family is found in three endemic genus in the Canary Islands but the American Asclepia has been introduced.
These photos were taken at the Maspalomas Botanical gardens, an small oasis in a concrete hotel jungle where all stages of the butterfly can be seen.
