Sonny Angel's Motorcycles

Sonny Angel's shop has been at the same location in National City CA since 1953. It's a REAL motorcycle shop with the usual collection of eccentric enthusiasts. It's the one place I try to visit whenever I go to San Diego.

Is Sonny Angel the same guy who raced an embarrassingly slow Yamaha 250 at Silverstone about 1958(ish). The race was won by Mike Hailwood on either the ex works Mondial or the ex-Surtees NSU. The real star of the race was Tommy Robb on the Geoff Monty Special which was based on a cut down 350cc Gold Star. After a bad start, he circulated at about the same speed as the winner. I think the Yamaha was the first Japanese bike to race in GB and probably in Europe.
