Hedley Cox

Mr. Cox was a Velocette factory race mechanic from 1948-1952. He's raced at the Isle of Man TT, built his own parallel twin special (Covel 500), worked for Harley-Davidson in the 50's and is currently building a sleeve-valve motorcycle engine. Quite a fascinating character.

An old friend working in the Veloce in the 60 confirm that Mr Cox book describe exactly what was the factory
and his management. About the interesting sleeve valve engine, Voisin and Panhard use them in their pleasant
(and expensive!) cars. The main problem is the oil consumption, and the sleeves precision, because their wall is very
thin..
I know that Panhard glue them with some cerruse ( i don't know the English name ) in the machine mandrels to do not misshape them during the process.

I've just read Mr. Cox's book and am amazed by his experiences. He has opened the world of formative British motorcycling up to me like never before. My interests have always leaned towards 60s and 70s Japanese motorcycles, the connection made during my youth, but now I'm fascinated by these early prototypical models. I met Mr. Cox several times throughout the 80s and had no idea he was who he is. my intention now is to meet him and discuss the Isle Of Man as well as so much more. Allan Kokinda

The Sleeve Valve is new to me even though it has been around forever. I like your conversion of the Honda Engine. It isn't glamorous but I'm sure it works well.
