Rutland, Vermont was prosperous enough early in the 20th century to acquire some fine examples of art deco architecture. The most unusual, a former clothing factory, is diused and, sadly, deteriorating. But one that was acquired by the U.S. Post Office as an annex has recently had its facade renewed, and the Service Building, Rutland's "skyscraper," contributes to a fine row of historic commercial buildings downtown. If airships ever make a comeback, the top of the Service Building awaits: it was built for mooring them.
