Far from always presenting smooth planes or curvatures, boulders often show the results of their turbulent histories through various protrusions, cleavages, ridges, and so on. A boulder without much picturesque interest can have a shaped section or segment that constitutes something unusual and perhaps memorable. Here again, boulders have surprised me with their diversity.
