Brick Lane got its name from the local manufacturing of bricks over a century ago.
By the early 18th Century it was a long well-paved street frequented by carts fetching bricks into Whitechapel from brick kilns.
Brick Lane is now the centre of London's Bangladeshi community. The Brick Lane market serves the local community, as well as attracting visitors from further afield to eat in the many Bangladeshi restaurants. (Source: EastLondonmarkets.com)
