A. E. Vickery

The schooner (136.2' x 26.2' x 10.8') launched as the J.B. Penfield in July 1861, and renamed in 1884, struck a shoal on Aug 16, 1889 and sank. Her entire crew escaped uninjured, the the pilot was almost murdered by the angry captain. The vickery slipped off the shoal and into deep water before she could be salvaged. There is a strong surface current, and the wreck is upright and can be reached in 65'. The angled bow sports a windlass & shields the divers. In the hold, a huge centerboard box can be viewed. The rudder is in place at 118'.
