Themes of memory, the passing of time, nostalgia and observations on how people occupy public space are the basis of Shelley Wildeman’s artistic production. For the Reconstructed group show at Gallery 1313, Wildeman takes what appear to be a series of faded tourist snapshots of European fountains and puts herself in each scene. By presenting moments that never actually existed, she is rewriting the memory of a holiday. And she is asking us to contemplate the experience of tourism and how we choose to remember our past.
