My friend Al and I took a 6-day wilderness canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in northern Minnesota. The area is over a million acres of wilderness. Our guide, Ramsey, supplied everything but our fishing gear, clothing and personal needs.
We had a total of 16 portages with the longest being one mile. We had canoes and so many packs we had to make TWO trips for every portage. The portages were much more difficult than I ever imagined....most were very hilly and extremely rocky. There were some that were nothing but large, jagged rocks to walk on. And, wouldn't you know, after making the 48 trips I fell about 20 feet from the canoes on the very last portage....lol
We portaged for a day and a half, then camped for 3 days and portaged out for a day and a half.
