I started Astrophotography in February 2020 when COVID Lockdowns began. Just back from Finland's Northern Lights trip and confined to the house and garden, I wondered what could I do with my camera, lens and tripod, in our garden, at night.
It didn't stop there....
Most of these images were made with too few exposures. It isn't simple to line up everything - have the opportunity to get out, Moon less than half, clear weather, little dew, no random equipment problems, solid batteries, overcome inexperience... So, I run out of time often, and process what images I have gathered. I am revisiting the most interesting objects.
Recently I have bought a Vaonis Vespera II integrated Telescope. This is Alt Az and only shoots very short exposures (usually 10 seconds). However, it is capable of excellent images and is very portable. I have taken it to Portugal - Algarve and Madeira. There the air is warm, skies are clear and dark, and the equator is 20° Latitude closer. Much better opportunities than in the UK.
