Westmoreland Sanctuary, Mt. Kisco NY - May 29, 2004

What a great day! As always, mycology is fun because of the people who participate, and we had a terrific turnout. This walk was especially festive because we were joined by the ever enthusiastic Sheines,Sandy and Gerry, and by the editor of MUSHROOM the Journal, Leon Shernoff. The were all in town to help Don and Betsy Shernoff celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and to join us in our search for intersting fungal growths.

We found the usual assortment of myxomycetes, ascomycetes, polypores, corals, jellies, and gilled mushrooms as well as a few that stumped us. I love when we find things we either haven't seen before, or that we have seen but forgot what they are. It is the process of observing details of the organism itself and its habitat and checking these with field guides carried on our walks that is most exciting, and which is always a joint effort in learning.
