Saturday's Westmoreland walk was led by our club president, Dave Rose, who took us on a different path than we usually take. This was the first club walk I was able to take part in since getting my new bionic hip! It was not a dissappointment! We had a terrific turnout for a mid-summer walk with Susan and Dave, George, Lisa, Carol, Santo, Diane, Roger, Chuck, Alex and Svetlana, myself and a couple of others I am sure I am forgetting to name. Anyway, although it hasn't rained in a couple of weeks or so, we found a surprising number of different fungi, including some rather unusual ones for this area and at least one that even the pros haven't named!
Among the fungi recorded for the day were the following:
Amanita ceceliae; Amanita farinosa; Amanita peckiana or volvata
Boletellus chryenteroides; Boletus chrysenteron; Boletus sensibilis; Boletus sp.
Gyroporus casteneus; Gyroporus cyanescens
Cantharellus cibarius; Cantharellus cinnabarinus; Cantharellus minor
Fuligo septica (the 'dog vomit' or 'scrambled egg' Slime)
Hynellum concrescens; Hydnellum sp.
Lactarius piperatus; Lactarius hygrophoroides
Pleurotus ostreatus; Pluteus cervinus; Micromphale foetidum; Marasmius androsaceus
Russula aeruginea; Russula foetens grp.
Trichaptum biforme; Trametes versicolor; Stereum ostrea; Polyporus varius; Phellinus gilvus
Scleroderma citrinum
