Westmoreland Sanctuary 10/30/04

This was our last offically scheduled walk of the year. Although it was cool and damp, the walk was was lovely as we enjoyed trampling over a thick and airy path of newly fallen leaves. At the last minute, Dave Rose was unable to lead the walk because he wasn't feeling well. He asked me to assume the honor, but honestly, Santo was the real leader of our small, but intrepid group. He not only led the way, he also kept an eye out for those of us not as steady on our feet going up and over slippery rocks as he is. Thank you Santo for being a gentleman, too!

With all the leaf cover, it wasn't easy to find mushrooms, but here is a list of a few that we did encounter without having to disturb the forest floor: Amanita citrina var. lavendula; Hygrocybe miniata; Pluteus cervinus; Plicaturopsis crispa; Fomes fomentarius; Exidia glandulosa; Bisporella citrina; Chlorociboria aeruginascens; Armillaria mellea; Laccaria laccata; Galerina autumnalis; Hynochaete olivaceum; Mycena inclinata; Piptoporus populinus; Poronidulus conchifer; Tricholoma saponaceum; Stereum ostrea; Trametes versicolor
