Black Trumpets are a favorite culinary mushroom of many. These are pink-spored, whereas Craterellus cornucopioides, more common in the west, is white-spored. Whether they should be considered different species is a matter of contention. Gary Lincoff, author of 'The Audubon Field Guide to Mushrooms of North America', has argued that the pink-spored Black Trumpet is merely a variant of Cantharellus corucopiodes (var. fallax).
