This is one of the more common and eye-catching amanitas. They usually are smaller than many other amanitas we see like Amanita rubescens. They have yellow cottony scales on the cap and at the base of the rimmed bulb, which are fragments remaining from the universal veil (egg-like covering protecting the immature fruting body).
