Among some moss I found several clusters of Cantharellus cinnabarinus, the Cinnabar Chanterelle, as well as Cantharellus minor. Nearby were three groups of white chanterelles. I could find nothing in our field guides or on the internet which helped me identify these delicate specimens. There is a white chanterelle that is found out west called Cantherellus subalbidus. However it is a robust mushroom, often larger than Cantharellus cibarius. Also it frequently has yellow markings on a white background. The ones I found were much more diminutive, rather like the Cinnabar Chanterelle, except completely white. I e-mailed Gary Lincoff about the find and he says it looks like an albino Cinnabar Chanterelle. So I guess that's what it is!
