The "Deer Mushroom." This is a very common mushroom in our area and can be seen growing from Spring through Autumn, though it prefers the cooler temperatures. It growns on decaying wood, which may not always be visible. Although edible, most people find it rather bland and uninteresting. I think it might be fine in a clear broth, but I am not a cook! Like other members in the genus, Pluteus cervinus has unattached gills and pink spores.
