10/23/10 Westmoreland Sanctuary, Bedford, NY

WE had a decent crowd come out to forage on one of the final weekends of COMA's walk schedule. Dave Rose was our leader, keeping us from getting lost. As for edibles, we found Lycoperdon pyriforme on wood and Lycoperdon perlatum on the ground; Panellus serotinus, the Late Fall Oyster, Armillaria mellea, the honey mushroom, and Lepista nuda, the 'Blewit.' As for inedibles we found fresh specimens of Plicaturopsis crispa, Panellus stipticus, Amanita crenulata and an unidentified white clitocybe and a cluster of tan-spored mushrooms. Our most interesting find was the clusters of honey mushroom growing directly from its mycelial rhizomorphs!
