10 07 07 Tallman State Park, Piermont, NY

I wasn't able to attend this walk, which was led by George Johanson, as I was in New Hampshire for the long holiday weekend visiting and foraging with our good friend and favorite Ascomycete Mycologist, Roz Lowen. However, Rena Wertzer took lots of photos of the Tallman walk and was able to tell me about some of the fungi the group found. As it has been extremely dry, the pickings were not especially exciting, except for finding a snake, a gorgeous caterpillar and JJ's discovery of a rather small Grifola frondosa. Rena recommended she soak it awhile before cooking to soften the latter up a bit. Apparently JJ did , fried it up and reported that she loved the taste of this choice polypore. Afterwards, the group picnicked and shared some favorite delicacies with each other. Rena was very impressed by the offerings!

Despite the dry weather conditions of late, I have been getting e-mails lately from friends and the public either inquiring about a particular mushroom they found or just to update me on what's fruiting on their property. I am going to include some of these in this week's segment update to share with you, as well as photos of a few mushrooms I found in New Hampshire this weekend.
