05 26 07 Mianus River Park, Stamford CT

Unfortunately I couldn't make this walk, but as you can see from the photos below, another good-looking group showed up for the walk led by NYBG teacher and native plant author, Carol Levine. According to Carol " We did not see much but what we saw was choice!"

Among the fungi recorded was Tricholomopsis platyphylla; Mycena sp.; Irpex lactea; Stereum ostrea; Pleurotus ostreatus; Peziza badio-confusa

"and finally an amazing array of Laetiporus sulphureus . It was on a
downed tree and practically covered the whole tree. People went nuts,!" said Carol.

Then I received an e-mail from Joe Brandt along with photos of some of the fungi found on the walk. Joe added: "We showed up on Saturday with two dishes.... Steve Brill's Chicken Harissa, and our original Chicken Salad.... both were especially appropriate, considering the nice find we had on the walk. We also had a little sample of some of our pickled hens, which were from November.

There were some very nice new people on the walk; I hope everyone had a good time even though there wasn't much in the way of mushroom variety. (At least everyone who wanted some went home with chicken mushrooms to cook.)

Thanks Carol and Joe for keeping us up to date when I can't attend a walk.
