Dianna,
The attendance at the Wonder Lake hike was a pleasant surprise considering it was a holiday weekend. I assume you have a membership list as some of the 12 names on the sign in sheet - even those who printed - were a bit hard to decipher... speaking of which so I hold onto the list.
Lou Tartaro, Chris Gales, Stephani Scavelli. JoAnn Companzano, Pete Companzano, Bernaed Zelli, Mary Monteiro, tony MOnteiro, Lisa Reinitz Vreni Roudner. , George Johanson and Gare Tolfer.
Although we didn't find them on the walk both Vreni ( Winecap on steroids ) and George ( oysters ) brought magnificent samples of edibles to be found in the area. I do believe the polypore I brought was a turkey tail and I attribute the green coloration to the mossy area where I found it in the deep woods under conifers - even though it appears to be a birch branch.... if you look at the new growth at the bottom right of the pic I believe that's the true coloration. Again sorry for the poor quality of the pics and hopefully Stephani will provide some better shots.
The walk produced a fair cross section of gilled mushrooms ( Fawn ) ,corrals, cup, and jellies. In addition polypores ( Frome Fromentarius) among others whiich we had trouble identifying, I did mention Otzi and that the tinder polypore was one of two mushrooms he was carrying .. when someone asked if it was edible Stephani jumped in and described how she actually witnessed embers burning in the fungus.
As an aside I went to a street fair in Ridgefield Conn a few weeks back and stopped in Town Hall to use the necessary. In the lobby was a display with the mushrooms mismarked I mentioned this to Stephani having remembered she mentioned having recently moved there. .. on the walk she told me Zacc randomly stopped in saw the display spoke to whomever was responsible and even invited them to a future COMA walk. Talk about a small world but more importantly the new generation of COMA certainly appears headed in the right direction.
Predictably George and the Brandts did a good job pointing out non fungi edibles and IMO a good time was had by all
