Suzdal, Russia 2015 Gallery

Suzdal was the third city that we visited. We stayed overnight which gave me time to wander on my own after arrival, as well as getting up at 5:00 to take photos. This was very fortunate since the weather turned bad early. I hope to go back to this town on my own someday since there is so much to see.

Suzdal was founded in 1024. It is 16 miles from Vladimir, about 4 hours from Moscow. It became the religious center of Russia. At one time there were 70 churches and 400 houses. Today the population is approximately 10,000. The town is really doing a lot to improve and renovate.

The Convent of the Intercession was founded in the 14th century. Several wives of Tsars/Princes were forced to take the veil, as well as 2 sisters of Ivan IV.

I use HDR (High dynamic range) when the lighting conditions are difficult in order to see an object without the highlights being blown out. Three different exposures are taken and then combined by computer.
