Labor Day Weekend: On our way to Downeast, we cross the Bucksport Bridge and get a look at the new Waldo-Hancock Bridge going up |
A stop in Castine for lunch takes us... |
....up the Main Street to .... |
...the oldest working Post Office in the US! |
Back at the dock, Maggie checks out a 'friend.' |
Then it's on to Jonesport...a very small working harbor further East. |
And at the hotel the first night there are lovely reflections on the Machias River behind the motel! |
As the evening goes along, it only gets better! |
Day Two: Finds us in Lubec looking across the harbor to Canada and Campobello Island. |
Lubec is an old working harbor as well. |
Edward shoots the waterfront while Lynne and Maggie enjoy the views. |
A drink for the pup puts Lynne on the sidewalk. |

Then on the way to West Quoddy Head, there is new vegetation with Lubec in the background. |

We make our way to Campobello, ..... |

St. Anne's Episcopal Church on Campobello is lovely and has.... |
...it's own cemetery with disappearing grave markers. |
Inside the benches are lined with hymnals and books of Common Prayer. |

Day Three dawns with fog on the river and... |
Canadian geese stop off in blueberry field for a migration snack. |
on our way to Calais, we find lovely marsh vegetation with tinges of Fall already! |

On the way to Eastport, we stop at St. Croix, the site of the first French settlement in America. |

Day Three finds us on the way home with a stop at Jasper Beach.... |
...an amazing place where the stones are worn by the waves into smooth, soft rounds! |
Edward and Maggie check out the local rocks digging down to find layers of different sized stones. |
Then it's back down the rockpile to the van. |
Then near Bucks Harbor we find this old corpse and.... |

Beyond Ellsworth we stop for blueberries. |

Sept. 16 and People are out playing with their dogs. |

The pasture is full of all kinds of animals... |

Then we stop at a transportation graveyard where it looks like... |
...someone is trying to salvage this old wooden boat. |

At Beth's Farmstand, there are evidences of fall harvest |

Sept. 19: We take Jeanne to the Conservation/Organic Farm.... |
....where she and Ron greet.... |

...his good friend, the Suffolk Punch drafthorse who joins him at the hay. |
Sept. 22: It's time once again for the Common Ground Organic Growers' Fair!! |
Many of them us draft animals for their plowing and... |

A sheepdog demonstration just about made our day! |
These dogs are amazing and they take good care of... |
....the sheep...even though they look terrified, they're NOT! |
Then we visit the fiber area where people are carding wool... |

The fairway is full of yummy goodies where at noon, many people gather to buy lunch. |
Then it's on to the ag building where all kinds of products are laid out to inspect....this one is popcorn! |

Transportation of the furry kind takes this couple around the grounds and.... |

Then it's on to visit the animals, but someone has beat us to the calf! |

Sept. 24: We head out Downeast and it's foggy...here the cables of the new Waldo-Hancock Bridge disappear into the weather! |

Day Two: The sunshines this day lighting the coastal marsh with sunlight....a welcome sight after yesterday's fog. |
We make it to West Quoddy Light again...lovely....again! |
As is the coastline from the trails at Quoddy. |
On the way back to Machias, we come across this lovely, old Congregational Church. |
Waterfront Jonesport on a crystal, clear day is.... |
enjoyed by this klatch of fishermen trading 'fish-stories.' |
And the catch was good! |
Then we are reminded of Andrew Wyeth in a lonely field outside Jonesport. |
Day Three: We stop at Acadia on our way home and... |
...it's a glorious day on top of Mt. Cadillac. |
The skies are lovely and the views wide and far. |

Then it's on to Turner and the apple farm where we pick... |

...it's time to head back to Topsham. It was a productive day! |
